Which capacity of OCS crane scale should you buy?
Pick the model by the heaviest load your crane lifts, then go one size up so you never work at the limit. A smaller model reads in finer steps, so don't buy far more capacity than you need.
- 1 ton, 0.5 kg steps: coils, machine parts, scrap bins and workshop loads.
- 2 ton and 3 ton, 1 kg steps: steel bundles, castings, dies, moulds, jumbo bags and pallets.
- 5 ton, 2 kg steps: plate and coil handling, loading bays and steel stock yards.
- 10 ton and 20 ton, 5 kg steps: heavy machinery, structural steel and large castings on EOT cranes.
- 30 ton, 10 kg steps, and 50 ton, 20 kg steps: shipyards, ports, mining and the heaviest lifts.
This 1 ton model reads in 0.5 kg steps and is best for Workshops, scrap yards, coils and machine parts.
Why weigh on the crane
- No second handling. You weigh the load while you lift it, so it doesn't have to go to a weighbridge or platform scale first.
- Read it from the floor. The digits are 30 mm tall and glow bright, so the crane operator and the person on the ground can both see the weight.
- Stay away from the load. The handheld remote sets tare and zero and holds the reading from up to 20 m away, so nobody has to stand under the scale.
- Hold. Press hold on the remote to freeze the reading, then lower the load and write it down.
- Tare up to full capacity. Hang a sling, spreader bar or bin, press tare, and the scale shows only the goods.
- Overload alarm. The scale warns you at 110% of its capacity.
- Tough body. The case is die-cast aluminium alloy, with an alloy steel shackle on top and a hook with a safety latch at the bottom.

- Handheld remote control

Before first use
- Charge the battery fully. It takes about 6 to 8 hours.
- Check that your crane, hoist or chain pulley can lift more than the load plus the scale itself.
- Hang the scale by its shackle on the crane hook. Make sure the shackle pin is screwed in and locked.
How to weigh
- Switch on with nothing on the bottom hook and wait for 0.
- If you use a sling, chain, spreader bar or bin, hang it empty and press Tare on the scale or the remote.
- Hook the load and close the safety latch.
- Lift slowly, just until the load is off the ground. Don't jerk the crane or let the load drop onto the hook.
- Wait 5 to 8 seconds for the reading to settle, then read the display.
- To keep the reading, press Hold on the remote. You can then lower the load and note the weight.
- Lower the load to the ground before you unhook it.
Stay safe
- Never stand or put your hands under a hanging load. Use the remote from a safe distance.
- Never lift more than 30 ton. If the overload alarm sounds, lower the load at once.
- Lift straight up. Don't drag or side-pull a load with the scale on the hook.
- This is not a heat-proof model. Keep it away from molten metal, ladles and furnace heat.
Keep it accurate
- Check it now and then with a load you know, such as weights or goods already weighed on a weighbridge.
- Don't leave a heavy load hanging on the scale for hours.
- Charge it when the low battery alarm shows. If you store it for long, charge it about once a month.
- Keep it dry and clean the display with a dry cloth.
- Use it between -10 °C and 40 °C.

This 50 ton model reads in 20 kg steps and is best for Shipyards, ports, mining and the heaviest lifts.

FAQs
Questions buyers ask before choosing an OCS crane scale for their crane, hoist or EOT bay.
Which capacity should I choose?
Take the heaviest load your crane lifts and choose the next size up. For example, if your heaviest load is about 2.5 ton, take the 3 ton model. Smaller models read in finer steps, so don't buy far more than you need.
How accurate is it?
The 1 ton model reads in 0.5 kg steps, the 2 ton and 3 ton in 1 kg steps, the 5 ton in 2 kg steps, the 10 ton and 20 ton in 5 kg steps, the 30 ton in 10 kg steps and the 50 ton in 20 kg steps.
What does the remote control do?
From up to 20 m away it sets tare and zero and holds the reading on the display. Nobody needs to stand near the load to use the scale.
Can I see the weight from the ground?
Yes. The LED digits are 30 mm tall and bright, so you can read them from the floor of a workshop or crane bay.
How long does it take to charge?
About 6 to 8 hours for a full charge. The battery and charger come in the box.
Can I use it near a furnace or with molten metal?
No. This is a standard crane scale, not a heat-proof one. Keep it away from ladles, molten metal and furnace heat.
Is there a smaller crane scale for lighter loads?
Yes. For loads up to 300 kg, see our digital crane scale in 200 kg and 300 kg. For more models, see all our crane scales.
